vDAL is a bookable space in Research IT where researchers can access VR, MR, mobile devices and high-end graphics workstations for testing, prototype development and collaboration with Research Software Engineers. We are now pleased to announce the addition of the Microsoft HoloLens to our vDAL.

Like several of the services offered by Research IT, mobile application development by our team of skilled Research Software Engineers (RSEs) should be costed into your grant application before it is submitted.

The third meeting of the UoM UK Biobank Community will take place on the 27^th of June. This community is designed to bring together UK Biobank users (and potential users) from across the University to discover what other UoM research groups are using UK Biobank resources for, to swap best practice and to form a researcher led community.

Scientific research needs to be both reproducible and replicable. Over the last decade, it has become clear that many scientific papers report research findings that turn out to be false. Andrew Stewart from the School of Biological Sciences explains how the new Open Science Working Group at Manchester is engaged in addressing this problem.

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative will soon put out a call for applications for open source software projects that are essential to biomedical research. Applicants can request funding between $50k and $250k for one year. If you are interested in applying then please get in touch!

IT Services has renewed the University's Cyber Essentials compliance. The current certification lasts until February 2020, and will be assessed/renewed on an annual basis.

Cyber Essentials is a Government-backed, industry-supported scheme to help ensure organisations are protected against common online threats.
