GPUs are a standard component in most computers but often are underused or misunderstood. For many specialist users and use-cases they are a critical element or have the potential to offer massive benefits. For example, the University’s research infrastructure Computational Shared Facility (CSF3) has 152 high-end GPUs ready to tackle challenging research workloads but achieving maximum performance isn't always straightforward. There are a great breadth of applications, libraries, techniques, and technology to explore, so we must disseminate experience and know-how, and inspire innovation.
The GPU Users Group (GUG) is an on-line only channel in the rapidly expanding CaDiR Teams space. The channel is open for any GPU related messages, such as.
- Announcements of news, events, technology, products and research
- Short form articles
- Peer-to-peer community support
- Exciting demos, clips and show-and-tell
In particular, the group seeks to increase the visibility and quality of GPU related activity and enable all researchers to elevate their GPU experiences.
To get the ball-rolling the group has opened a short survey to build a bigger picture of GPU users and usage across the University.
Get Involved!
Currently, we are looking for interested researchers / PGRs to help with supporting and maintaining the community. Assistance with suggesting / inviting contributors and identifying topics would be very welcome. If you are interested please contact Carri King or post your suggestions in the GUG channel.
