VR@Manchester

Extended Reality (XR) which encompasses Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR) has the potential to revolutionise how we deliver education and research.

Through lightning talks, and interactive demonstrations the VR@Manchester working group will showcase real-world examples of how XR simulation is being developed or used across University faculties.

Our event experts are:

  • Dr Tony Payton (Division of Informatics, Imaging & Data Sciences, School of Health Sciences) on An overview of XR at UoM.
  • Yat Leung (Research IT / Dept. of Computing Science) on Digital Engineering for Fusion Energy
  • Prof Tony Peyton (Dept. of Electrical & Electronic Engineering) on AR: potential industrial and mine clearance applications
  • Dr Paul Warren (Division of Neuroscience & Experimental Psychology) on VR2 activities
  • Dr John Piprani (School of Arts, Languages and Cultures) on 3D Scanning
  • Dr Jonny Abbas (ENT Surgeon, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust) on Developing a tracheostomy simulation.

The presentations will be followed by VR demonstrations (Rm 2.218 and 4.205 University Place) allowing participants to try a range of simulations developed at the University.
