Changes to SSH/X2GO Gateway Log In

Do you use our SSH/X2GO gateway (nyx servers)? How you log in will be changing on 3rd of August

In order to provide greater security to our services we will be introducing 2-factor authentication (2FA) on the nyx/5/6/7 X2GO/ssh gateway servers. The planned date of implementation is Monday 3rd August 2020.

From that date as well as using your IT University username and password you will need to undergo an extra authentication step either via your mobile phone or a Duo fob when connecting to the nyx servers. Once connected to the nyx servers you will then connect to iCSF and CSF in the normal way.

Please note that you will not need to change anything in relation to the SSH or X2Go client software.

We will issue more details and documentation nearer the time so please look out for announcements on the its-nyx-users mailing list and the Research IT Infrastructure Services News page.

Many of you will already be familiar with 2FA as a result of using it to access other services such as your University email. If you have never used the University 2FA to access any services, are unsure whether you can use the 2FA or have any questions related to this change to the nyx servers please get in touch by emailing the Research IT Infrastructure team with the subject line 'nyx 2FA'.
