New GPU Resources for The HPC Pool

Two months ago the Research IT HPC Pool consisting of 4096 CPU cores of Infiniband-connected compute resource (all dedicated to true HPC work) went into production. Many researchers are already running jobs on this new resource which was delivered via Research Lifecycle Programme (RLP) Change Project Z: High performance compute investments. We are now pleased to announce the arrival of further compute resources which will be available to all UoM researchers by the beginning of June.

The combined RLP Change Projects: M & K (Incrementally build compute capacity and improve access to compute resources) will deliver 20 state-of-the-art Nvidia V100 GPUs. These will be made available to CSF users to share from a total of 44 (with more coming soon). The remaining 24 GPUs were contributed by research groups across the University who will have priority access to these.

At the same time there will also be three very high memory (1.5 TB RAM) nodes installed as well as some additional standard compute nodes and Cloud-based resources. Again all of these new resources were procured as a result of RLP Change Project M & K.

We would like to thank everyone who came along to the RLP Change Project M & K workshops last autumn and provided feedback. Your feedback determined our procurement! The recent RLP Change Project M&K workshops held in April will feed into our next procurement for 2019 / 2020.
