Research IT

Research IT Club Nov - speakers announced!

The next Research IT club will take place on the 29th Nov, slightly earlier so as to avoid clashing with Christmas festivities! It will feature updates from our research infrastructure and software engineering teams. Our two feature presentations will look at how Research IT helped to improve the comparison, annotation and mark-up of a collection of scans and the introduction of a new data service for users of NHS data. To attend the event please register so we know how much coffee to order in!

Making correspondence readable in an online edition

Prof. David Denison, School of Arts, Languages and Cultures, University of Manchester

An early look at some of the academic decisions to be taken and technical problems to be solved in building an online edition (specifically transcripts of scans) that is maximally useful for academic researchers from different disciplines, yet user-friendly. Research IT helped to improve the user interface to this edition allowing for better side by side comparison, annotation and mark-up.

Data Safe Haven (NHS Digital Data)

Mary McDerby, Research IT and Jonathan Boulton, IT Services

The university is currently developing a Data Safe Haven service in order to support researchers from across the university who use NHS data. The service is being developed to meet NHS Digital’s requirements and to support NHS digital users. The presentation will give an overview of the service and future developments.

The event will take place in G1.07 Alan Turing from 3 – 4.30pm. For catering purposes we would be grateful if you could register for this event.

Don’t forget that if you have a query about including Research IT skills and expertise in grant proposals you can come along to our Grant Support Clinics which are held every 6 weeks. There are also our drop-in sessions which take place across the university campus on a regular basis.
