Research IT

New Starters in Research IT

We have recently welcomed two new members of staff to the Research IT team. Jim McGrath and David Mawdsley have both joined as Research Software Engineers.

Jim McGrath has been at the university for more than eight years, working as a software engineer, data and information manager and user engagement specialist across a number of different units, most recently the Business Engagement Support Team. Jim specialises in web development, in particular the use of web portals for communication of research data (including visualisation), and (unusually) Microsoft Office programmability and automation; a combination of skills that should ensure Jim is never short of things to do!

David has joined us from the University of Bristol where he was a Senior Research Associate working on the evidence synthesis of clinical trials using R. Prior to that he worked as an analyst at HEFCE working on various projects including the REF and Unistats using SAS and SQL. Since joining the team he has been working on the data analysis for the IDInteraction project in the School of Computer Science.
