Join Dr George Foody from the UK Biobank for a presentation on the 16th of October. This is an ideal event for anyone new to using UK Biobank or using their GitHub notebook resources.
There will be plenty of time for questions and it is expected that the event will last around 90mins with approximately an hour for the presentation.
Demonstration of resources to begin working with the UK Biobank data and the UK Biobank Research Analysis Platform
Dr. George Foody. Bioinformatician, UK Biobank
The UK Biobank is a large-scale, longitudinal, prospective cohort study of 500,000 volunteers, who were recruited between 2006 and 2010, when aged 40-69. UK Biobank has a diverse array of data, including factors, linked electronic health records, genomic and imaging data. The size, longitudinal nature, accessibility and shareability has enabled diverse research goals to pursued using the UK Biobank dataset.
One of UK Biobank’s goals to enable researchers to access the dataset, for that reason there are several grants and reduced fees available. Researchers interact with the dataset through the UK Biobank Research Access Platform (UKB-RAP). The UKB-RAP is a scalable cloud platform offering numerous features to collaborate, monitor work and control costs. The UKB-RAP is a versatile and powerful analysis tool; it supports multiple programming languages and enables the development of apps and workflows enhancing research efficiency and reproducibility. To enable access, UK Biobank is developing resources, including a series of GitHub Notebooks, for both beginners and more advanced users. This demonstration will go through a step-by-step guide of setting up a UKB-RAP project and beginning to explore the data.
