Impacts of disrupted sleep and circadian rhythms: clinical and biological insights from the UK Biobank
Prof Martin Rutter, School of Medical Sciences
Martin will talk about his experience of working with UK Biobank data and the opportunities that this world-leading resource presents for international collaboration and for performing impactful cutting-edge research. He will focus on studies he has been involved with that have assessed the clinical and population level impacts of sleep and circadian disruption on health and wellbeing.
He will highlight the potential limitations of traditional epidemiology and the insights that can be gained from genetic epidemiology and from using Mendelian randomization techniques. He will talk about the some of the strengths and limitations of the UK Biobank resource and the opportunities available for its future development.
Martin takes up his position as Deputy Chief Scientist at UK Biobank in June.
