This is a free training programme delivered as part of a funded pilot programme evaluating Agile training for digital research technical professionals.
Supported by DisCouRSE Network+, this initiative delivers hands-on Agile training for digital research technical professionals (dRTPs) across University College London (UCL) and the N8 institutions.
The programme combines research-focused workshops, Agile fundamentals, and practical GitHub tools to support Agile workflows, collaboration, and project tracking in real research environments.
The training is designed for a wide range of roles, including Bioinformaticians, Research Software Engineers (RSEs), Data Scientists, DevOps Engineers, Digital Librarians, Project and Community Managers, Research Computing Facilitators, and Technical Research Support staff, etc.
The programme runs in two rounds, each delivering three modules. Participants progress step-by-step, moving from Agile concepts in research contexts to applying tools and practices directly within their own projects.
What You Will Gain
- A structured Agile learning pathway across three modules
- Practical tools and techniques to improve research project delivery
- Experience applying Agile methods in real research contexts
- Confidence using tools such as GitHub for workflow and tracking
Multiply Impact in Your Team
We encourage teams to send at least one representative who can bring Agile practices back and support improved ways of working within their group.
All course materials will be openly available through the DisCouRSE project for continued learning and reuse.
Contribute to National Curriculum Development
Your feedback will directly contribute to the development of a national-level Agile project management curriculum for dRTPs across the UK.
Time and Location
Participants are expected to attend all three modules within a single round to gain the full Agile learning pathway. Each round is designed as a complete programme, and modules cannot be mixed across rounds. Please ensure you are available for all three sessions in your selected round before registering.
