Service Description

The RVMS provides customizable, self-administered Ubuntu Linux based Virtual Machines.

Typical uses include:

• Web servers with a SQL database backend.
• Download sites for publicly accessible data (e.g., mounted from the RDS).
• Hosts which require fast, secure access to RDS

Research Virtual Machines (VMs) are not suited to CPU intensive work or for storing Highly Classified data. The machine owner is responsible for machine maintenance and updates.

Charging Model

The basic configuration of 2-vcore CPU, 8GB RAM and 50GB HD, Linux O/S would not incur a charge. A higher specification and/or Windows O/S would be chargeable at a negotiable rate dependent on project needs.
