New Improved Research Data Storage Coming Soon

Research IT is pleased to announce that a replacement system for the existing Research Data Storage platform (Isilon) has been procured. The new tiered platform will offer researchers greater data storage capacity and will also be faster and cheaper.

There will be no disruption to service when the new platform is implemented early in the next calendar year. User access to shares from desktops and laptops, and from the CSF and other computational facilities, will be unchanged. User files will be transferred from the old to the new platform invisibly.

The new platform will comprise new, faster Isilon nodes at Tier 1 and a slower, cheaper Tier 2 consisting of EMC ECS object storage. Any files which have been unused for some time will be automatically move from Tier 1 to Tier 2 but access remains at all times.
